چکیده

In this paper, we present an affine image coregistration technique for Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DT-MRI) data sets based on mutual information. The technique is based on a multichannel approach where the diffusion weighted images are aligned according to the corresponding acquisition gradient directions. Also, in addition to the coregistration of the DT-MRI data sets, an appropriate reorientation of the diffusion tensor is worked out in order to remain consistent with the corresponding underlying anatomical structures. This reorientation strategy is determined from the spatial transformation while preserving the diffusion tensor shape. The method is fully automatic and has the advantage to be independent of the applied diffusion framework.

Entropy-based coregistration for DT-MR images using an efficient tensor shape preserving reorientation strategy

A. Leemans, J. Sijbers, M. Verhoye, A. Van der Linden Physics, University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium, Biomedical Sciences, University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium Introduction and Purpose Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) is becoming an important diagnostic tool for various neuropathological diseases [1, 2]. It is often desirable to combine multiple DT-MRI data sets of the ...

Retrospective distortion correction for 3D MR diffusion tensor microscopy using mutual information and Fourier deformations.

Magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can be complicated by distortions that contribute to errors in tissue characterization and loss of fine structures. This work presents a correction scheme based on retrospective registration via mutual information (MI), using Fourier transform (FT)-based deformations to enhance the reliability of the entropy-based image registration. The registr...

Multiscale white matter fiber tract coregistration: a new feature-based approach to align diffusion tensor data.

In this paper an automatic multiscale feature-based rigid-body coregistration technique for diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) based on the local curvature kappa and torsion tau of the white matter (WM) fiber pathways is presented. As a similarity measure, the mean squared difference (MSD) of corresponding fiber pathways in (kappa, tau)-space is chosen. After the MSD is minimized along the arc leng...

Age-related decline in brain white matter anisotropy measured with spatially corrected echo-planar diffusion tensor imaging.

Echo planar (EP) diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) permits in vivo identification of the orientation and coherence of brain white matter tracts but suffers from field inhomogeneity-induced geometric distortion. To reduce spatial distortion, polynomial warping corrections were applied and the effects tested on measures of fractional anisotropy (FA) in the genu and splenium of corpus callosum. Imple...
